At night in Erbach Palace

Kights' armour

When evening falls in Erbach, we take you on a very special journey and explore the mysterious side of Erbach Palace with you. As darkness falls, everything appears very different from the daytime; the shadows on the walls of the halls and salons merge with the works of art and the time-honoured furnishings. Some precious details, however, which otherwise remain hidden, flash in the ray of light and present themselves in all their beauty. The count's ancestors in their portraits seem to come back to life in the nocturnal atmosphere, and the past and present of the castle merge in a striking way.

Of deer, stags and big antlers

Vestibule with collection of weapons and antlers

Photo: Michael Leukel, 2018

Count Francis I zu Erbach-Erbach's interest in natural history is reflected in his important collection of deer antlers and roebuck horns. Through donations and purchases, he collected 70 so-called "colossal" deer antlers, which were already historical objects during his lifetime due to their rarity. The holdings can be found in the Stag Gallery, the Vestibule, the Armoury and the Staircase. In the armoury, the development of firearms from the beginning of the 16th century onwards is documented, while the stag gallery contains outstanding hunting weapons.
