Guided tour of the castle ruins

Photo: Michael Leukel, 2018

The castle ruins in Hanau-Wilhelmsbad State Park once formed a scene in the middle of the artistically designed landscape garden. Today, it is an accessible princely residence where time has stood still. Visitors are particularly struck by the contrast between the exterior and interior. But this was exactly what the creator and builder of Wilhelmsbad, Hereditary Prince Wilhelm IX (1743-1821), wanted: the exterior of the building has a medieval and enchanted feel to it. The count, on the other hand, had the interior decorated in an artistic and magnificent style. This is where he retreated from his obligations at the nearby Hanau residence. Discover this remarkable refuge and let yourself be surprised by the splendour inside.
