The castle ruins in Hanau-Wilhelmsbad State Park once formed a scene in the middle of the artistically designed landscape garden. Today, it is an accessible princely residence where time has stood still. Visitors are particularly struck by the contrast between the exterior and interior. But this was exactly what the creator and builder of Wilhelmsbad, Hereditary Prince Wilhelm IX (1743-1821), wanted: the exterior of the building has a medieval and enchanted feel to it. The count, on the other hand, had the interior decorated in an artistic and magnificent style. Health cures and entertainment – Wilhelmsbad was a renowned, flourishing spa resort in the 18th century, built by Hereditary Prince Wilhelm IX (1743-1821).
