Information for blind and partially sighted visitors

Parking facilities

Designated disabled parking spaces are available and signposted in the car park on Nibelungenstraße (enter “Nibelungenstraße 12” into your sat-nav / next to Holzhandlung Koch). Further marked disabled parking spaces can be found in the car park behind the Volksbank Bergstraße, Bahnhofstr. 15–17.

The paths from the car parks to the monastery grounds, the museum centre and the Lauresham open-air laboratory are paved or tarmacked and largely level.

Travelling by public transport

From Lorsch railway station, it takes about 15 minutes to walk to Lorsch town centre. The walk to the Lauresham open-air laboratory takes about 30 minutes.

Assistance dogs

Assistance dogs are permitted throughout the grounds and in the exhibition halls. This also applies to guided tours and events. Please ensure you carry appropriate proof of the assistance dog’s accreditation and authorisation to be used.

Please be aware that there are animals roaming freely in Lauresham.

Herb garden for blind and visually impaired people

The herb garden features a small area specially designed to meet the needs of blind and visually impaired visitors. Additional information in Braille and small tactile models are currently being prepared.

Guided tours for blind and visually impaired people

The Lauresham Open-Air Laboratory offers a guided tour specially designed for blind and visually impaired people. The tour is aimed at people who have been blind since birth, those who have become completely blind, and people with varying degrees of visual impairment. Participation is subject to prior registration; the tour must be booked at least two weeks in advance.

Information about the paths on the monastery grounds and in Lauresham

The monastery grounds are predominantly flat to gently undulating and are accessed via paved paths. Some areas, such as the herb garden, have narrower paths, which may make it difficult to find your way around. There is a slight incline between the Royal Hall and the church ruins.

At the Lauresham Open-air Laboratory, the paths are mainly surfaced with water-bound paving. The terrain is largely flat and easy to navigate. However, the reconstructed buildings may feature prominent door thresholds and other historical architectural features.
